There is nothing better than sitting outside on a warm balmy night with a cool drink, until the mosquitoes start. If your like me and seem to be as addictive as cocaine to these little beggars then you'll feel my pain. Many a night ruined where I have been forced inside only to look longingly at the empty chair outside where I should be sitting.
Being Scottish one of the main joys of going abroad is the great weather and outdoor lifestyle and it seems swapping the Scottish midge for the mosquito is a burden we have to bear. Until now. This year I am going armed. Packed in my case will be a selection of candles which I am hoping will repel anything small with a taste for blood. I am such a slave to this cause that I have forfeited a pair of shoes so I have extra space!
After 'extensive' research (2 mins on google) I have found that while citronella is the big daddy of mosquito repellents there are other options available. Lemongrass is a cousin of citronella and has the same properties that repel mosquitos and has the added benefit of smelling nicer. Also lavender, peppermint, rosemary and eucalyptus are all said to work too.
So armed with this knew found knowledge I am packing for war. My weapons of choice are;
The Melt Pool, Lemongrass & Lavender Candle plus Peppermint, Lavender & Rosemary Wax Melts.
The Isle of Skye Candle Co, Lavender travel container
Love Scottish Candle, Lemongrass candle
Esscentuals, Nordic Sky tin (mint & eucalyptus)
So maybe this year it might be different, the mosquitoes will finally be repelled and I will enjoy beautiful sunsets and won't be covered head to toe in bites. Failing that, if I am forced inside at least I will have a few of my favourite candles for company.
